Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program and Manage Your Future

Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program (SYELP) is a tier structured 5-6 week, summer "work and learn" experience in July and August designed for students between 8th – 12th grade. SYELP’s goal is to help students become better workers. Students take classes on “The Art of Networking,” Personal Branding, College Readiness, Etiquette and Financial Literacy. Students are also taught how to write cover letters and resumes. SYELP’s main focus is to prepare students before going out in the workforce.

Manage Your Future (MYF) is a similar program that ran concurrently with SYELP and emphasized many of the same skills. The added bonus of MYF was that students also took classes on the importance of managing and saving money.

SYELP work post

In the Urban League Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program (SYELP), we are learning how to become participants in the work place. We have been in training for about a week.  We are taught how to make resumes, cover letters & we take classes on how to manage our money and the psychology of money . We have taken tests on our thinking skills and how our money is managed . This is a great program for all youth because we get paid and learn educational information!
